Human Community Research Consortium

We are a group of faculty committed to developing a scholarly community that supports intellectual engagement on topics related to human communities.

This consortium was developed as part of the 2010 CLASS Humanities Fellows program. The consortium helps scholars connect across the College of Letters Arts and Social Sciences and the University of Idaho. The consortium intends to build a scholarly community that supports and creates opportunities for faculty to collaborate and pursue their independent interests that impact human communities.

Spring 2024 Writing Accountability Group

The writing accountability group provides time and space for writing in the library. The group will be convening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 am – 1 pm in Library 132 or 131. Please contact Traci Craig (tcraig@uidaho.edu) if you are interested in joining the group (so you will get any email updates). You can also just drop in during the scheduled time and write away!

Spring 2024 Book Writing (Not Reading) Club!

Join us for the Book Writing (not reading) club! For those new to campus or this group, we meet every two weeks during the semester. We circulate drafts of chapters and book proposals to the group about a week before the group meets. The author is encouraged to ask for the kind of feedback they seek, and when the group meets, we spend most of the time (approx. 50 minutes) discussing the text and providing comments to help our colleagues move their book projects forward.

We will be meeting via Zoom on the following Mondays at 12:30 p.m.

February 12
February 26
March 25
April 8
April 22

Email Associate Dean Traci Craig (tcraig@uidaho.edu) to learn more or to save your date.

Spring HCRC Manuscript Workshop Series Schedule

Mark your calendars for the Fall HCRC Forum on Mondays at 12:30 p.m. in ADMIN 112 Conference Room. Let us know if you are interested in attending and join us if you can! Papers will be pre-circulated before the day of presentation.

In the Workshop Series, the papers are pre-circulated for reading, and the session entails a 5-minute overview from the author, with the rest of the hour reserved for comments, questions, critique, and suggestions for improving the paper. The purpose is to help us all strengthen the papers presented and build a sense in the scholarly community of what others are doing on the research theme of Human Community.

As always, the Workshop Series and the Human Community Research Consortium are open to new participants, so please spread the word and invite anyone you think may be interested.

This is an open call for papers. Should anyone have a manuscript they would like to have read and workshopped by the group, please let us know a preferred date (see below) by Sept. 9. You can contact Matt Grindal by email at mgrindal@uidaho.edu to reserve a date. The format will be the same as in the past. A week before the scheduled date, the author submits a manuscript for pre-circulation along with a brief summary of any specific feedback sought. The group will then meet to discuss the paper. Drafts at all stages are welcome!

We are seeking submissions for the following dates:

January 29
March 4
April 8
April 22

If you are not on the paper distribution list, please email Matt Grindal (mgrindal@uidaho.edu) to receive a copy of the paper for the day you will join us.
