January 2019
Welcome to the first edition of Scholars and Researchers for 2019! With the arrival of the new year, I am excited to announce that the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) has a new internal investment program to kick off 2019: Research, Infrastructure and Scholarly Excellence (RISE).
RISE grants represent the continued ORED investment into growing the University of Idaho’s research enterprise and target to catalyze research, scholarship, and creative activities across all disciplines. In essence, RISE is a suite of targeted internal funding opportunities that provide seed funding to enhance the scholarly profile of U of I faculty by increasing the competitiveness of external proposals and/or resulting in publications, awards, patents, performances or other deliverables related to the PI’s discipline.
ORED RISE programs fall into three broad categories: research project support, scholarly and programmatic support and travel support. Programs such as the Equipment and Infrastructure Support Award (EIS) will continue, and you may have noticed that we recently launched two new RISE programs, Jumpstart, designed to allow faculty to engage in research that significantly differs from their current line of investigation; and Meet Your Sponsor, which affords faculty the opportunity to travel to have in-person meetings with potential sponsors of their research, scholarly or creative activities. The additional RISE programs will be rolled out in the next several months.
ORED’s Research and Faculty Development (RFD) team will manage the RISE program application process and encourages feedback going forward. I look forward to seeing the proposals that are received and the impactful outcomes from RISE investments in our outstanding faculty here at the University of Idaho.
Go Vandals!
