Academic Planning
Academic Planning Events and Deadlines
Each student creates an individualized academic plan during 1L spring after consulting with faculty and advisors. Creating the plan helps students create a coherent structure that makes the most of their remaining two years of law school. In the plan, students identify their values and goals, make preliminary decisions about curricular choices, and create a preliminary course schedule for 2L and 3L years. Advisors and faculty then give students timely feedback and advice about courses, activities, and practice experiences to help them achieve their goals.
In the academic plan, students indicate their plans in regards to such curricular choices as:
- Bar preparation
- Clinics
- Co-curricular activities
- Concurrent degrees
- Emphasis areas
- Externships
- Graduation date
- Pro bono
- Courses to fulfill the experiential learning requirement
- Upper division writing requirement
While students are not bound by the plans that they create as 1Ls, the process of creating the plans gives them the knowledge and experience to modify their path based on new circumstances or changed goals.
Academic plan events and deadlines will be disseminated by e-mail notices. For the Class of 2021, the completed academic plan is due on March 29, 2019.
To complete the Class of 2021 academic plan, sign into Blackboard and select the Law Academic Planning Workshop for your location (Boise or Moscow).
