Important steps — start now

Set up your Vandal accounts

Setting up your Vandal accounts as soon as possible ensures that you will receive crucial information on important updates about financial aid, billing, housing, registration, deadlines and more.

Check your MyUI and VandalMail accounts frequently to make sure you don't miss important information.

MyUI allows you access to your transcripts, student account, add/drop class forms, registration and many other important items that are vital to your success at the University of Idaho.

VandalMail is the official email used by your professors, academic advisor and the different university departments to communicate important dates and information with you.

Duo Multifactor Authentication (MFA) provides extra protection for your account. You will be directed to enroll in Duo MFA when you set up your account.

File your FAFSA

If you haven't already, make sure to file your FAFSA. It's the key to getting all the scholarships, grants and low-interest government loans you deserve.

It's free to apply! Enter U of I school code 001626 when filling out the application.

There are no income limits for FAFSA. Any eligible student can file.

Sign up for a UIdaho Bound event

UIdaho Bound is our signature event for newly admitted students like you. Event dates are available in spring and summer on campus in Moscow.

Student Health Insurance Program

University of Idaho requires all full-time, fee-paying, degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled in 12 or more credits and graduate/Law students enrolled in nine or more credits to submit proof of health insurance as a condition of enrollment. Students subject to the requirement may choose to rely on personal health insurance or enroll in U of I's Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP). Personal health insurance must meet the minimum requirements or substantial compliance standards to qualify.

To submit information through MyUI:

  • Log in to MyUI using your NetID and password
  • Click on “Students Menu”
  • Click on "Student Health Insurance Menu"
  • Click on “Health Insurance Information Form”
  • Select term from the drop-down list
  • Complete form
  • Submit

Request your VandalCard

Your VandalCard is your student ID for U of I. Request your card and have it mailed to you in three to five business days after the card is printed by selecting the “mail the card” option and entering your mailing address into the description field. You can also choose to pick it up in the Student Technology Center (TLC 128) if you are in Moscow, or if you are in Boise, at the Idaho Water Center 190 or College of Law Boise building.

Let us know if you’re Ready to Register. An advisor will reach out to you via email to set up an appointment. Please be patient, appointments will begin to be scheduled after March 31.

If you’ve decided to change your major or are unsure what major you indicated on your application for admission, please check your application status portal where you can view your current major(s) and request a change if needed. You may also contact the Admissions Office at 208-885-6326 or by email at admissions@uidaho.edu.

On-campus housing: make your selection

All full-time, first-year freshmen under 21 years of age are required to live on campus in a residence hall or fraternity/sorority facility for one academic year. Learn more about the requirement or find the exemption form.

Steps to stay on track this summer

Complete the required safety program

At University of Idaho, we all play a role in creating a safer and healthier campus community and supporting our Vandal family. The Voices for Change safety program for undergraduates will help you navigate challenging situations. Students will receive an email invitation in their VandalMail account detailing how to access Required Safety Program: AlcoholEdu and SAP-U.

Pre-order your textbooks

Skip the lines! Pre-order your books online from the VandalStore and have them waiting for you when you arrive in Moscow. You will receive an email when your order is ready to pick up. If you're attending classes in Boise, Coeur d'Alene or Idaho Falls you can order books from the VandalStore and have them shipped to your home address.

Buy your parking permit

If you're bringing a vehicle to the Moscow campus, you'll need to buy a parking pass. Parking permits will go on sale starting July 8.

Start packing — what to bring and what to leave

As you prepare for your University of Idaho journey, make sure you’re ready for both study and fun. Bring all the essentials, like pens, notebooks, scissors and a sturdy backpack to keep you organized. If you don’t have a laptop, no worries — our campus has over 15 computer labs, so you’ll always have access to the tech you need. Remember to check out the packing list to help you cover all your bases and coordinate with your roommate to avoid bringing duplicates.

A quick heads-up: Pets (except fish), halogen lamps and certain cooking appliances like air fryers aren’t allowed in residence halls. But every room is equipped with a microwave/refrigerator combo, so you’re already off to a great start.
