Your path to success starts here

When you transfer to U of I, you need resources and support to make your transition smooth and successful. We’re here to help every step of the way.

As a transfer student, I found U of I offered the best route to complete my undergraduate degree in forestry without having to move across the country.

’24 forestry major

Who is considered a transfer student?

At U of I, you’re considered a transfer student if you are pursuing your first bachelor’s degree and have 14 or more semester credits (21 quarter credits) completed after high school. See more on our transfer website.

If you’ve taken college courses while in high school (e.g., dual credit), you’re still considered a first-time freshman.

Why transfer to U of I?

University of Idaho is an excellent choice for transfer students, and you’ll automatically have access to:

  • Transfer-friendly admissions, which ensure a seamless application process, a generous credit acceptance rate and detailed transfer guides to help you transition smoothly.
  • Affordable tuition, scholarships and competitive tuition rates, including tuition waivers for in-state and Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) students, and transfer-specific scholarships.
  • Strong academic programs in engineering, business, agriculture, natural resources and more, all with strong industry connections which can help you successfully launch your career.
  • Growing number of online degrees and courses to help you get the education you need on a timeline that works for you.
  • Dedicated transfer resources to assist you with advising, credit evaluations and support programs, all designed to help you adjust and thrive at U of I.
  • Plentiful campus resources, featuring fun student organizations, clubs and activities, paired with welcoming communities in Moscow, Boise and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
  • Housing options, ranging from on-campus and off-campus options and including dorms, apartments and Greek chapter residences at the Moscow campus.

Transfer student admission requirements

Transfer students are admitted if they have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (C average) on all transferable college‑level courses from accredited institutions. Students transferring into the College of Engineering from out‑of‑state schools must have a minimum GPA of 2.80. Some programs may have additional transfer requirements — check with your intended department for details.

International students should review the international admission requirements as they differ from domestic transfer criteria.

As a transfer student you must submit

  1. An application for admission.
  2. $50 application fee (non-refundable). No application fee required for Idaho residents.
  3. Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
  4. High school records may aid in the scholarship selection process, so submission of high school credentials, although not required, is recommended.

Applicants with fewer than 14 transferable credits must also meet the admission requirements for first-year students.

If you do not meet the published criteria for admission at the time of review, you may apply to the Admissions Committee for consideration.

Being older than the average student, and a transfer student was a little intimidating. I had not considered ever attending a four-year college, but then I met so many wonderful leaders on campus, and through the clubs, who showed me that I could be a leader just like them.
