We’ve broken down everything from essential checklists to what to expect on arrival, so you can focus on the excitement of starting this next chapter. Let’s get you unpacked and settled into your new Vandal home.

Prohibited items in the residence halls
- Lithium-ion batteries used in e-bikes/scooters and similar devices are prohibited per campus fire safety policies. We encourage you to leave these items at home.
- Refrigerator and microwave (all rooms come equipped with both)
- Heaters (except approved), candles and incense
- Any open coil/open flame appliances (toaster ovens, hotplates, George Foreman Grills, etc.)
- Pets (except fish in a 10 gallon or smaller tank); cats are allowed in the on-campus apartments with approval.
- Firearms, BB guns, paintball guns, fireworks, martial arts weapons, etc. (More information about firearms on campus can be found in U of I’s Firearms Policy
- Wireless or wired router (all rooms come equipped with a hardwire point and have access to the campus Wi-Fi)

On-campus apartments
Your mailbox location and number can be found in your welcome email, with your address. Our mailbox location map will show you where each of the mailboxes are located for each apartment complex.

VandalCards
A VandalCard, the official student ID, is required to check into your residence hall/campus-apartment and use your meal plan. Order your VandalCard online and submit your own photo before you arrive to campus.
Cards typically take 2-3 days to ship so we recommend you order your card at least two weeks before your arrival. You must have your VandalCard with you in order to check into your room.
Payment plans and options
All semester tuition, fees, housing, dining and health insurance charges can be paid at the Student Accounts Office, on MyUI or through wire transfer. More information can be found on the Student Accounts webpage.
Internet or wi-fi connection
Use your NetID and password to connect to AirVandalGold and AirVandalHome. If you have any questions or problems, The Student Technology Center is happy to help. We can be reached at 208-885-4357 or support@uidaho.edu.
Bedding information
Students are required to supply their own bedding and linens including but not limited to sheets, pillows, blankets, towels and wash cloths. Please see shopping locations below for information on where to purchase bedding and linens.

*On-campus apartments do not include a bed and come unfurnished.

You may check-in to your room starting Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025 in the following locations:

Returning student move-in
Returning students can move into their 2025-26 room assignment Aug. 21-23. Students are required to choose a timeslot prior to moving in.

- Returning students can check-in at the LLC Information Desk.
- Students living in the North Campus Communities can check in at the NCC Information Desk.

First day of class – fall semester
The first day of class for all students is Monday, Aug. 25, 2025.
New Student Orientation – Vandal Welcome
New Student Orientation, also known as Vandal Welcome, will take place on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, and is highly recommended for all first-year students.

Vandal Shopping Night at Target
10-11:30 p.m. Aug. 21
Save the date for a STUDENT ONLY night of shopping at the Moscow Target. Open to all University of Idaho students. Drive or catch a bus from various locations around campus (map on back) including the LLC and Wallace Bus Stop, Greek row and North Campus Communities.

Residence halls – Spring move-in
Starting at the university during the middle of the year is never easy. The guide below is designed to kick off your college career in a positive direction.

New student move-in (freshman and transfer students)
- You may check-in to your room starting Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026 at the Information Desk, located at 901 Paradise Creek Street in the Living Learning Communities Building Two.
- Select your move-in timeslot at iwanthousing.uidaho.edu. (Timeslot selection will start at noon and run until 5 p.m.)

Returning student move-in
Returning students may access their room starting at noon Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026.
You do not need to check in if you are already living in your room.

The first day of classes is Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.
International student move-in
We are beyond excited to welcome you to the Vandal Family and to your new life at University of Idaho. Moving to a new country is a big step, and we're here to make your transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Use this section as your guide to help you prepare for your arrival. We can't wait for you to experience the beauty of our campus and the friendly, welcoming spirit of the Vandal Family. For all dates and times, refer to the fall or spring move-in sections above.
Before you arrive checklist
Reserve your housing
Make sure you confirm your housing reservation prior to your arrival at iwanthousing.uidaho.edu. You can review your housing options on the residence hall webpages.
Note: University of Idaho requires all full-time, first year students under 21 years of age to live in organized living groups officially recognized by the university (residence halls, fraternities and sororities) for one academic year.
Pay your housing application fee
A $100 application fee is required before you can reserve your room. If you cancel your room reservation, the entire $100 fee will be forfeited.
Are you having trouble paying the $100 application fee?
If you don't have an international bank card and can't pay the $100 application fee, please begin your Housing Application. Then, follow the provided instructions to arrange to pay the application fee after you arrive on campus.
Order your VandalCard
A VandalCard, the official student ID, is required to get into your residence hall and use your meal plan. Upon your arrival, you can pick up your card in the VandalCard office, located in the ISUB. To order your card, visit the VandalCard Page.
In the event the VandalCard Office is closed upon your arrival you can pick up a temp card at the Information Desk when you check into your room.

On-campus Apartments
Moving into your on-campus apartment at University of Idaho is an exciting milestone, and we’re here to make sure it’s a smooth and seamless experience. Below, you will find helpful resources, clear timelines and everything you need to know about getting settled in, we’ve got your back every step of the way.
Campus apartments move-in
Check-in
Your apartment assignment offer letter will include your check-in date and time. At that time, or any time after, you may come to our Information Desk between LLCs 2 and 3 on the corner of Line and 6th Street to pick up your keys and check in with us.

Apartment Condition Form (ACF)
Please complete your ACF and return it to the housing office or Information Desk. It is important that we receive your ACF within three days of your check-in to prevent you from being liable for any preexisting damages and to insure we can complete any necessary repairs as you get comfortable moving in. Please be thorough and detailed so we can assure you the best possible service.
Parking
Apartment residents have exclusive access to Green lots with the purchase of a Green permit. Green permits are located around the apartments and also allow access to various Blue lots throughout campus. There are also visitor permits available for purchase. Purchase a permit online through Parking and Transportation Services.
Utilities
When you arrive, the following utilities will be functioning in your apartment: internet, water, sewer, garbage and electricity. However, residents are responsible for electricity costs.
How to set up your electricity account through Avista: Within one week of checking in, your electricity must be transferred from University of Idaho to your name. Have your physical address ready when you call Avista at 1-800-227-9187.
Internet and technology
Apartment residents have free access to campus wireless internet. To log-in, simply choose the AirVandalGold network and log in with your university NetID and password. Each apartment also has a port for a wired option, which is recommended for the best connection. You will need to purchase your own Ethernet cable.
