Academic Coaching

Work one-on-one with an academic coach to strengthen your study habits, time management and problem-solving skills. Together, you’ll identify your learning style and develop strategies to overcome any challenges holding you back.

Need help with a class? Drop in for free tutoring — no appointment needed. Get support in a variety of subjects from fellow students who’ve been there before.

SI-PASS (Peer-Assisted Study Sessions)

Tackle difficult courses with the help of structured, peer-led study groups. SI-PASS sessions focus on what to learn and how to learn, so you can build both understanding and confidence.

Whether you're working on a paper or a personal statement, the Writing Center offers one-on-one help at every stage of the writing process. In-person and online support is available for students, employees and alumni.

Program specific support resources

Many colleges and departments at U of I offer academic support services tailored to specific programs. These resources are designed to help you succeed in your coursework, strengthen your research abilities and connect with peers in your area of study.

Program specific support services include:

  • Computer Science Assistance Center: Get tutoring and course-specific support for computer science classes. Open to all students enrolled in CS courses.
  • ThinkTANK (Engineering): Collaborate on homework and projects, connect with peer tutors and participate in engineering-focused events in a dedicated space for engineering students.
  • Library research assistance: Schedule a one-on-one session with a librarian for expert help developing research strategies, finding credible sources and organizing your academic work.
  • Housing and Residence Life Student Success Program: Access peer mentoring and tutoring, flexible study spaces and a computer resource center as a student living in the residence halls.
  • Physics tutoring: Find tutoring sessions specifically for physics courses and programs through the Department of Physics in the College of Science.
  • Accounting Lab: Get tutoring and support for accounting courses through the Accounting Lab in the College of Business and Economics.
