IT Support Staff Will Visit Offices to Install Software on All University-Owned Devices

University of Idaho Information Technology Services (ITS) is beginning a Central Device Management Program to gather and maintain accurate information about all university-owned devices. IT support staff will begin installing software on university-owned devices in offices across the Moscow campus beginning Monday, April 1. Faculty and staff cooperation in these efforts will provide IT support staff with information to more effectively support technology needs. Departments will be notified in advance when IT support staff will be conducting updates in their buildings.

Part of the IT Best Use Initiative, centralized device management will improve customer service on all U of I-owned devices. The initiative does not include personal devices. The first step of centralized device management is to gather an inventory of U of I-owned devices that require installation of a software client to automatically report device configuration information back to the central device management system.

During this process, departmental IT support staff will:

  • Visit offices across the Moscow campus at some point over the next six to eight weeks.
  • Target completion of most faculty devices is April 19, two weeks ahead of the start of final exam week, to avoid affecting the semester-end processes and events.
  • Any faculty devices not completed by April 19 will resume after May 15 (after final spring grades are completed).
  • Staff/administration visits will continue beyond April 19, being mindful of areas involved in semester-end processes.

Make sure your office and U of I devices are accessible, as scheduled by area, from April 1 to May 24 (configuration of most faculty devices will be completed by April 19) to allow departmental IT support staff to prioritize and complete these operations.
