Advertising B.A. & B.S.
Advertising graduates create, sell, schedule, design and produce paid messages for the media that promote products or services.
The advertising major prepares students for careers in such areas as retail and corporate marketing, media sales, brand management, media planning and account management. Others work in online communications, copy-writing and graphic design. The curriculum integrates theory and technology with media research and strategies. Students produce a portfolio to demonstrate a mastery of advertising principles. Advertising graduates go on to careers supporting the marketing and branding needs of businesses and other organizations.
Required course work includes the university requirements, the School of JAMM core, plus the following:
- JAMM 265 Principles of Advertising (3 credits)
- JAMM 361 Advertising Creativity (3 credits)
- JAMM 364 Advertising Media Planning (3 credits)
- JAMM 466 Advertising Campaign Strategy (3 credits)

Advertising majors are encouraged to apply for Advertising Competition Team, JAMM 469, which requires students to work together to prepare an integrated marketing communication campaign. The American Advertising Federation competition allows students to compete against peers at regional and national levels. Members will apply advertising, public relations and marketing communication principles to solve a problem for a national client. Ad Team membership takes students beyond previous classes, simulating an integrated marketing communications agency.
