Journalism

Bachelor of Arts

John Webb is a high-profile senior in JAMM who was recently hired by KQ6NEWS in Spokane. He is from Wallace and spent his 4 years at U of I honing his broadcast skills, doing many internships and landing the job he wanted at a Spokane station.

Shape the future of information

Social media, video podcasts, RSS news feeds, blogs — while the way we get our news has shifted, the public continues to rely on professional journalists to help stay informed about the world around us.

As a journalism major, you will learn how to gather and share newsworthy information across multiple forms of media, including print, broadcast and digital media. You will develop exceptional research and writing skills, sharp news judgment, and gain the global awareness you need for a career in journalism.

Students in this program build practical media experiences with opportunities to contribute to the student newspaper, student magazine and university radio station.

Faculty with professional experience offer personalized mentorship, while internships — both on and off campus — prepare you for the demands of the workplace. You'll also benefit from working in a simulated newsroom setting, where you can develop the expertise needed for a successful career across multiple platforms.
