The Lionel Hampton School of Music creates unforgettable experiences that inspire and connect audiences across generations. From renowned chamber music concerts and ensemble showcases by students and faculty to the internationally celebrated Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, our performances reflect a rich tradition of musical excellence, collaboration and community engagement. Whether on campus or out in the community, our students and faculty bring music to life with passion, purpose and artistry.  

Auditorium Chamber Music Series

Experience the Auditorium Chamber Music Series, an acclaimed series featuring internationally renowned musicians in intimate performances that blend tradition and modern interpretation.

Through outreach programs such as the Palouse Chamber Music Workshop, the annual Young People’s Concert, university masterclasses and more, ACMS creates meaningful opportunities for our community to experience the magic of chamber music and connect with exceptional musicians.

Our musical groups featuring talented students and faculty exploring a variety of genres and styles bring the joy of music to life with exciting performances throughout the year. Experience the artistry of these ensembles through:

Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival

Celebrate the impact of jazz on young musicians at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, one of the longest-running and most celebrated jazz festivals in the world. Each year, University of Idaho welcomes acclaimed artists, educators and students for unforgettable performances, workshops and competitions that honor jazz as a timeless art form.

  • Concerts and performances: Experience inspiring live performances from professional musicians and recording artists, emerging artists and student ensembles.
  • Workshops and clinics: Engage with jazz legends and leading educators through interactive workshops and immersive masterclasses.
  • Jazz in the Schools: Connect K-12 students with experienced musicians through outreach programs that bring the joy of jazz to schools and young musicians.

The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival celebrates music, learning and community, welcoming everyone from lifelong jazz lovers and aspiring musicians to those newly discovering this iconic genre.

Bringing Vandals together through music and tradition

The Vandal Marching Band brings energy, pride and tradition to University of Idaho’s most iconic events. Whether welcoming prospective students or leading the charge during Homecoming, these performances connect our campus and community through the Sound of Idaho.
