Ensuring access and opportunity for every Vandal

U of I's Center for Disability Access and Resources (CDAR) is committed to ensuring all University of Idaho students — regardless of ability — have full access to academic, social and campus life experiences.

We understand that disability is a natural part of the student experience and we work to create an environment where everyone can fully participate in campus life. Through collaboration, mutual respect and self-advocacy, we provide equitable access for students with both permanent and temporary disabilities.

Our vision is a campus that not only embraces accessibility by design but also develops disability allies who champion inclusivity.

Academic accommodations

CDAR provides academic accommodation to ensure every student can fully participate in their education. Services include:

  • Deaf and hard-of-hearing support
  • Assistive technology
  • Alternative text formats
  • Testing accommodations
  • Note-taking assistance

Learn more about academic accommodations and how to request them.

Non-academic accommodations

University life extends beyond the classroom, and CDAR collaborates with campus partners to provide accommodations that support your full participation in all aspects of student life:

  • Housing accommodations — Explore campus housing accessibility options.
  • Accessible parking and transportation — Learn about disability permits and accessible transportation services.
  • Dietary accommodations — Work with our campus dining partner, Idaho Eats, on meal accommodations. If you have a dietary accommodation that you feel is not currently being met in the dining hall. Visit the dining website and fill out the Dietary Request Form. Once this step is completed, email Associate Director for Dinning and Services Nathan Underwood-Schuchman to request a meeting with the Eatery's Chef.
    • If the dining hall is unable to meet your specific dietary needs, they will notify you and CDAR. At that time, you will need to complete a CDAR application. You will also be asked to provide medical documentation with your application that provides a diagnosis and details the functional limitations you have regarding eating in the dining hall. Review documentation requirements for more information on what documentation to provide CDAR.
    • Once your CDAR application and documentation are submitted, you will receive an email prompting you to call the office at 208-885-6307 to schedule an appointment with an access consultant to review your request for accommodation.
  • Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) — Find out how to get ESA approval.

Don’t see what you need? Contact us at 208-885-6307 or cdar@uidaho.edu, and we’ll help find the right accommodation for you.

Complex accommodations

Some accommodations can take two to four weeks to implement. Students are encouraged to request accommodations as soon as possible. Students must renew accommodations each semester by logging into the CDAR Access Portal. To modify established accommodations, contact CDAR to schedule an appointment.
