10 Things To Know About the Block Party

The Block Party is a revival of the Vandal Town Block Party, which began under former Mayor Lambert. After a two-year hiatus, U of I, the city and the chamber are eager to bring back this event, with the encouragement of current Mayor Bettge, to celebrate the strong and welcoming ties of the Moscow community.

We’re working with the city’s downtown event professionals to block off Main Street between Third and Fifth streets. Laugh, party and pass the night away in Friendship Square after the Moscow Farmers Market. The Block Party is within easy walking or biking distance from U of I and surrounding neighborhoods.

We’re highlighting and showcasing what our community is all about, and how beneficial the town-and-gown relationship is to everyone in Moscow.

Family-friendly and laid-back, this event has something for everyone, including oversized yard games and a chance to meet Vandal student athletes. Ham it up in Friendship Square with a karaoke contest or just take in the sights and sounds with friends.

Our community has some seriously delicious food vendors. So, don’t worry, you will have the opportunity to munch the region’s most amazing specialty food and drink items, with many of these items crafted by Vandal alum. Visitors over 21 years old who plan to purchase and drink beer and/or wine will receive a wristband and event cup at the ID check booth near the downtown clock.

Attending The Block Party means supporting local and supporting Vandals. Don’t forget to stop by downtown businesses on your way to the event or check them out afterwards.

  • Sing your heart out downtown! There will be Karaoke for those that get up their nerve to sing to the crowd. (There will be no contest, because we are all winners.)
  • Bring your crew and compete against another team and the clock in tabletop speed Jenga. Prize baskets go to winning contestants.
  • Hula-hoop against Vandal student athletes with gift cards for teams that defeat the mighty Vandals.
  • Drop-in four-in-a-row and checkers.
  • Mini soccer and hoops.
  • There will be a "100 Hop Scotch Challenge" so get ready to hop, skip and jump 100 times!

You know you can wear anything in our awesome community, but this is a chance to express your inner block star! Dress as a block, a rock star, a mom, a dad (see what we did there? You don’t have to wear anything special — just be yourself), a student, a friend and wear your best smile!

4-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug 27, 2022. Mark your calendar.

He is a disc jockey. And he is going to be there. If you haven’t caught DJ Dave at previous events in Friendship Square, just know that he gets the party started and keeps it going.
