Engineering Expo
Save the date: April 30 & May 1, 2026
EXPO is the longest-running student engineering and technological innovation showcase in the Pacific Northwest. The event welcomes K-12 and community college students, industry partners and community members who explore industry-sponsored projects designed by current U of I students in the college’s Interdisciplinary Capstone Design Program, ranked top seven in the nation for infusing real-world experiences into engineering education.
The success of EXPO would not be possible without the overwhelming support from corporate and academic partnerships, including presenting sponsor, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.

Judge at EXPO
Judges are a critical part of the Engineering Design EXPO experience for University of Idaho College of Engineering students. Interaction between students and judges creates opportunities for students to gain new insights and to learn about engineering career paths and the profession.
Judge’s registration opens February 2026
Judges spend about three hours reviewing student team projects and evaluating student communication abilities and the design process applied to achieve each project's objective. Judge assessments serve as the basis for awards distributed at College of Engineering Student Awards Ceremony held each spring.
Judges are welcome to serve on multiple sessions. Please use the form below to explore judging opportunities and to register to judge at EXPO.
About EXPO
Working in teams, engineering students from across disciplines present their projects from our college’s Interdisciplinary Capstone Design Program, recognized by the National Academy of Engineering as one of the best in the nation. For some students, EXPO is the final culminating event before graduating and joining the workforce.
More than 500 students attend EXPO annually to explore projects that push the boundaries of science and technology and learn more about University of Idaho.
Students see what it’s like to be an engineering student at U of I by connecting with current students and faculty members and exploring the many project and research opportunities available to Vandal undergraduates .
Representatives and business leaders from across the region attend and help judge the projects presented at EXPO, giving ample opportunity for students to meet and interact with industry leaders who are looking to hire for highly skilled additions to their teams.
