Kristine Levan is Department Chair of Culture, Society, & Justice and an associate professor of Criminology. Her research and teaching interests focus on issues related to violence, media, and institutional corrections.

Kristine Levan earned her Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2007. She has published in outlets such as Justice Quarterly, Games and Culture, Contemporary Justice Review, Journal of Qualitative Criminal Justice and Criminology, and the International Journal of Qualitative Methods. Recently, she co-authored Crime, Punishment, and Video Games (2022), published by Rowman & Littlefield/Lexington Books, with Steven Downing.

Her research and teaching interests focus on violent crime, prison culture, and public perceptions of crime and criminals. Her recent research explores criminological and criminal justice themes, such as punishment and justice, and the expression of these themes in various media outlets.
