Vandals for Recovery
Vandals for Recovery, U of I’s Collegiate Recovery Community, supports and advocates for students in and seeking recovery from substance misuse as they pursue their academic goals. Support, events, and resources are provided in collaboration by Vandal Health Education, the Counseling and Mental Health Center and the Latah Recovery Center.
This program provides a safe, recovery-supportive, nonjudgmental space for students in recovery to find a community of like-minded peers and engage in educational and sober social opportunities on and off campus as they maintain their recovery. Any student who identifies as being in or seeking recovery from substance misuse may join this community.

There are many reasons why a person may use or misuse substances. Vandals for Recovery provides opportunities for those in or seeking recovery to find their community, engage in recovery-supportive activities, and get connected to resources.
Campus & Community Recovery Resources
Hope in Change is a personalized and inclusive group open to all students looking to better understand their use, develop skills to cut back or quit, learn healthy coping strategies, and develop community. The hybrid format allows folks to join in person or via Zoom, and those looking to join the group are encouraged to contact Keith Hansen, at rkhansen@uidaho.edu or stop by a session to complete a brief initial screening.

The University of Idaho Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) offers free and confidential counseling to students, including counseling related to substance misuse. The CMHC is located in Mary Forney Hall Room 306 on Blake Avenue. Contact the office at 208-885-6716.
The CMHC also offers virtual group counseling sessions, which provide a safe, confidential environment where you can learn about yourself and others. Visit the CMHC's Group Counseling website to learn more and view current group offerings.
The Latah Recovery Center, located at 531 S. Main St., Suite B in downtown Moscow, serves all of Latah County and partners with Public Health to serve as a location in the Rural Crisis Center Network. The Latah Recovery Center hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. PST. All in-house services are free! The Latah Recovery Center offers strengths-based support for people with behavioral health concerns including one-on-one counseling, Recovery Coaching, and Peer Support. They offer assistance with housing, resumes, job hunting, and are a Salvation Army location. The monthly schedule of meetings includes Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Al-Anon, Positive Affirmations and Life Skills. The Crisis Center is available 24/7 for adults 18 and over experiencing an acute behavioral health crisis. The Crisis Center staff are trained professionals who will help with physical, mental, social and emotional needs and guide them to safety and healing. All services are provided at no cost. If you're experiencing mental health concerns such as anxiety or depression in addition to substance misuse concerns, and would like peer support in navigating these concerns, consider joining the Recovery Peer Volunteer program coordinated by the Latah Recovery Community Center as a person seeking support. Recovery Peer Volunteers (RPV) work with individuals in recovery from substance misuse and any co-occurring mental health concerns. Under the supervision of a Recovery Coach, Recovery Peer Volunteers are trained to be a listening ear and provide recovery-focused support through the recovery process.
The Latah Recovery Community Center also provides opportunities to anyone who is interested in becoming a Recovery Peer Volunteer, which includes attending the Recovery Peer Volunteer virtual training, which consists of two, three-hour sessions. Participants learn about the recovery process, how to encourage self-efficacy, active listening, advocacy, communication and so much more! This training requires a minimum of 10 participants and is offered quarterly or as requested. Call 208-883-1045 with questions and to register for the next training opportunity.
Real Life Ministries offers the Christian-based Celebrate Recovery program at 7 p.m. Fridays in Moscow. Visit projecthopeidaho.org for more information, or call 208-882-2484. In addition, there are many excellent private providers in the Moscow-Pullman area.
Freshstart is a nicotine cessation program offered by appointment via Zoom and is available to all students, faculty, and staff, including UI extension and all statewide U of I locations. This four-part class is geared to help participants increase their motivation to quit, learn effective approaches for quitting and guide them in making a successful quit attempt.
