Youth summer camps
Performing arts summer camps at U of I
The Lionel Hampton School of Music (LHSOM) and Department of Theatre Arts at University of Idaho invite young performers to ignite their creativity through immersive summer camp programs in music and theatre. U of I summer camps provide interactive learning experiences for aspiring artists of all skill levels.
Led by university faculty, these performing arts camps offer a supportive, skill-building environment where students develop confidence, master new techniques and perform alongside peers in a vibrant campus setting. Our summer camps help students find their voices — artistically and personally— through transformative experiences that develop their talent and a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

Keeping camp costs affordable
The Lionel Hampton Music Camp charges only enough to cover expenses and does not make a profit. Faculty members donate their time to make camp more accessible and are dedicated to providing the most affordable option for young musicians.
- Day campers pay an average of $5.90/hour, including lunch and dinner.
- Overnight campers pay about $5.68/hour, which includes an additional meal and supervised housing.
We offer scholarship support when available, but funding is limited. Please reach out if cost is a concern — we want to support as many students as possible.
Housing and travel
Campers can choose between two options:
- Overnight campers: Stay in supervised university residence halls for six nights (Sunday to Saturday).
- Day campers: Commute daily to campus and participate fully in all events and meals except breakfast.
Housing preferences are confirmed during registration. All campers — regardless of option — receive meals in the campus dining hall and participate in the same instructional programming.
