Eligibility under Health Care Reform
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA or ACA) became law in 2010. The University of Idaho has devoted significant time and effort toward understanding how it will affect our health plan and our employees. As a result, we have expanded eligibility to the university's medical and prescription drug plan, allowing qualified employees who are otherwise not eligible to enroll. The university is extending medical and prescription coverage only, at full cost (Non-Subsidized), to non-board appointed employees who:
- Work at least 30 hours a week, or
- Teach at least 11 credits per semester as a temporary faculty member or lecturer.
As of Jan. 1, 2015, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is bundled with the medical and prescription coverage for those who elect the coverage at full cost to the employee. The EAP coverage is an additional cost of $1.59 per pay and is automatically added when the medical and prescription coverage is elected.
