Things to know before registration
Registration
You’ll manage your schedule with Schedule Planner and register from Student Registration. You will be assigned a registration period each semester. Registration is not canceled and classes are not automatically dropped for non-payment of fees. If you decide not to attend, you must drop all classes before the first day of the semester or request cancellation.
Advising
Undergraduates are advised each semester before registration by their academic advisor, department or college. Graduate and law students are not required to be advised but may wish to do so if they have questions or concerns about their progress. Advisors can assist you in creating a schedule to meet your academic goals. Locate the name of your academic advisor on your Student Profile page; see the Student profile quick reference guide.
Don't know who your advisor is? Find your advisor using our online tool.
Classes
Classes offered each semester are listed in the Class Schedule. Each class is assigned a Class Registration Number (CRN) used for registration. You should prepare a proposed schedule using Schedule Planner in preparation for advising and registration.
Financial agreement
By registering for classes, you agree to:
- Pay all tuition and fees associated with the courses you registered for.
- Follow formal add, drop and withdrawal procedures of the university.
- Attend classes regularly. You may be dropped for non-attendance during the first week of the semester.
- Be financially responsible for any classes you remain registered in after the full refund period ends.
- Honor your obligation if your account becomes delinquent. You will be financially responsible for late fees, interest, service charges, collection costs, legal fees and court costs and agree to pay any and all such charges.
When does registration open
Registration opening times for continuing students are based on the number of credits earned plus the credits currently registered for at U of I. Senior athletes, honor students and military veteran students follow the senior registration times. Registration continues to remain open after the initial opening time for each group; there are no closures.
