U of I-WSU cooperative education

For more than 50 years, University of Idaho and Washington State University have shared academic resources, enhancing student learning and fostering collaboration between faculty and facilities. As neighboring land-grant institutions with similar missions, this partnership provides unique educational opportunities. Cooperative courses are available during the fall and spring semesters.

At the end of each semester, U of I and WSU automatically exchange transcripts for cooperative students. WSU courses taken by U of I students count as resident credit but appear as transfer credit.

How to apply and enroll: University of Idaho students

Admission and registration at WSU

U of I degree-seeking students wishing to register for approved WSU cooperative courses will take the following steps:

  • Consult your academic advisor to determine the proper class(es).
  • Review the WSU Cooperative Class Schedule for offerings.
  • Complete a WSU Non-Degree Cooperative Admission request form.
  • WSU will admit U of I students as cooperative non-degree status and notify students of their admission and login credentials (emails will be sent from smartsheet; check junk/spam folder also).
  • Register for WSU cooperative class(es) on My.WSU.

Note: U of I cooperative students may only register for approved cooperative courses. Class prerequisites will be systematically enforced; students should contact the offering department for assistance if they encounter registration errors (make sure to identify yourself as a cooperative student). Co-op students are not allowed to audit classes.

Deadlines and procedures for registration changes for a WSU cooperative course will follow WSU regulations.

Fees and financial aid for U of I students

U of I students will continue to pay all registration fees and tuition to U of I, however, they will be responsible for paying any special course fees (e.g. lab fees, technology fees, etc.) directly to WSU for cooperative courses they are enrolled in. WSU will share enrollment information of U of I cooperative students for their registered credits to count toward full-time enrollment status at U of I. U of I students will continue to receive their financial aid through U of I.
