Auditorium Chamber Music Series
Where world-class music meets the Palouse
Since 1986, the Auditorium Chamber Music Series (ACMS) has brought world-class chamber ensembles to the University of Idaho’s historic Administration Auditorium. From celebrated string quartets to vocal ensembles, ACMS has hosted legendary groups such as the Beaux Arts Trio, Kronos Quartet, Chanticleer, Imani Winds and the Anima Brazilian Ensemble—bringing Palouse audiences the caliber of performances found in major cultural centers.
Beyond the stage, ACMS is deeply committed to education and outreach. Visiting artists engage with students, educators and community members through residencies, masterclasses, workshops and informal performances at the 1912 Center, Moscow Public Library and local schools. These initiatives nurture a love of live music and help inspire the next generation of musicians and audiences.
Whether you're a devoted concertgoer, a music student or new to chamber music, ACMS invites you to experience artistry at its finest.

Community engagement and outreach
The Auditorium Chamber Music Series brings its visiting musicians into schools and communities throughout the area, reaching over a thousand individuals each year.
Inspiring young minds through live chamber music
Each year, ACMS hosts the Young People's Concert specifically designed for fourth- and fifth-grade students across the Palouse region. These interactive performances introduce hundreds of young students to the excitement of live chamber music, featuring our world-class ensembles.
Another popular outreach event is the Children’s Rug Concert, held at the 1912 Center. Designed especially for toddlers and families, this interactive concert introduces young listeners to high-quality chamber music in a relaxed setting—and gives them a chance to meet and chat with the musicians up close.
In both events, students experience a variety of instruments, learn how music can tell powerful stories and often leave newly inspired to join band, orchestra or choir.
If you are a music teacher or parent who would like to join us for our upcoming Young People's Concert or Rug Concert, please reach out to our ACMS team at chmusic@uidaho.edu or 208-885-7557.
Bringing the arts to every corner of our community
ACMS is committed to making chamber music experiences accessible throughout the Palouse region. Each year, our featured string quartet presents a free concert at the Moscow Public Library—an event that draws approximately 100 listeners and brings world-class music to the heart of the community.
Connecting regional young musicians with world-class ensembles
The Palouse Chamber Music Workshop is a special one-day program where approximately 50 regional musicians come together to learn directly from visiting artists. Participants prepare chamber music pieces in advance and receive professional coaching during the workshop, culminating in a showcase of learning and collaboration. Past workshops have featured ensembles like the Pacifica Quartet, St. Lawrence String Quartet and Ying Quartet, offering rare opportunities for musicians in our rural region to connect with top talent.
University masterclasses
Hands-on learning for U of I students and community musicians.
Visiting ACMS artists regularly lead masterclasses for students and community members in the Lionel Hampton School of Music. These sessions include one-on-one instrument coaching, composition seminars, chamber ensemble presentations and music career discussions. Students benefit from direct mentorship and personalized feedback from world-class musicians, strengthening both their technical skills and artistic confidence.
