Academic support in the College of Law

The Academic Success Program at Idaho Law starts before your first day, offering valuable summer resources and preparatory modules.

First-year programming includes orientation sessions to build key skills for success in law school and beyond, along with the Academic Success Fellows Program, where top upper-classmen in the college offer one-on-one support. Upper-level programming is designed to enhance skills needed for bar exam prep and practical lawyering tasks.

Academic coaching

Academic coaching is designed to help you achieve your educational and professional goals. Through the Academic Success Program, faculty members provide personalized support to help you tackle challenges like legal reasoning, time management and overall well-being. Personalized one-on-one coaching with law faculty members offers tailored guidance to boost your skills and enrich your law school experience.

Academic planning

At the College of Law, you will be responsible for your academic planning, including course selection, progress toward graduation and bar exam preparation. Idaho Law supports this process by providing advising materials, facilitating planning meetings and helping you engage in conversations with faculty members to ensure you meet graduation and bar exam requirements.

Law Technology Services (LawTech)

LawTech provides IT and classroom support for all College of Law students, faculty and staff at our Moscow and Boise locations. We support your success by ensuring you have the tools and resources needed to excel in your coursework and clinical experiences.

We can help with:

• Printing and other tech needs

These resources are designed to enhance your academic experience and assist with professional development, ensuring you have the tools necessary to achieve your goals during and beyond your time in the program.

Practical training

At Idaho Law, you’ll benefit from a practical training program recognized by PreLaw Magazine. Through externships, clinical programs and pro bono work, you’ll have the chance to apply what you learn in the classroom to real-life legal situations. These hands-on experiences will help you develop the skills necessary to succeed in your legal career, while allowing you to work on real cases, help actual clients and gain valuable experience in public service.

Study Abroad Program

Study abroad programs offer a unique chance to explore international law and compare it to domestic legal systems. This experience not only broadens your understanding of global legal systems, it hones your cultural communication skills, preparing you to connect with people from diverse perspectives. It’s a valuable opportunity for personal and professional growth as you broaden your legal knowledge and abilities.

Over 100 ABA-accredited law schools offer summer and intersession study abroad programs. If you’re considering study abroad, you should act early to meet deadlines for the law schools offering the programs. You must also work with U of I’s International Programs Office in addition to fulfilling College of Law requirements. All aspects of study abroad participation are discussed in the College of Law Catalog and Law Student Handbook.

Gonzaga’s Florence Summer Law Program

In 2017, U of I’s College of Law became an affiliate school to Gonzaga’s Florence Summer Law Program. As a U of I law student, you’ll automatically have permission to join the program thanks to your affiliation. The program is delivered at the Gonzaga campus in Florence, Italy, in the heart of the city’s cultural and historical center, the University District. Steeped in commitment to global justice and the connections between the interdependent systems of international law, the Florence Summer Law Program provides you the opportunity to study human rights topics from an international and comparative perspective. The program begins each year shortly after final exams in May and lasts through most of June.
