SHAMP student success
Helping students thrive in the health professions
At SHAMP, you’ll be supported every step of the way, from your initial classes to your final exams. You’ll learn that your faculty members are more than just instructors – they’re mentors who guide you through the journey of attaining an education in a health profession.
Supportive community
With small class sizes, you’ll benefit from personalized attention and build strong relationships with faculty members. This close-knit community gives you a built-in study group and a helpful network of peers and health care professionals.
Top tier learning and research facilities
Practical experience drives how we teach, and our state-of-the-art facilities pave the way. Vandals study medicine in the dedicated D.A. Huckabay M.D. Medical Education Building. This space was specifically designed to foster community among students, staff and faculty.
As you pursue your education in medicine, you’ll study anatomy and physiology by dissecting cadavers in the Anatomy Training Lab and participate in clinical and community-based research projects in on-campus labs and medical clinics throughout Idaho.

Find your people with SHAMP student-organized clubs and events
As you advance in your health education journey, you are encouraged to join or develop clubs with others who share similar interests, goals and passions.
You can also organize events that expand on your interests. Past events have ranged from advanced suture clinics to a presentation by the former governor of Wisconsin.
Explore hands-on health care experiences
Vandals pursuing medical education can participate in research and hands-on learning opportunities or provide outreach services to rural and underserved communities. The School of Health and Medical Professions (SHAMP) also hosts education programs for future and current health care workers and K-12 educators.
Covering sports medicine to cognitive aging, our efforts combine all U of I medical education offerings and contribute to a comprehensive approach to expanding health care education across the state.
