Real-world solutions for safer, stronger communities

Design sustainable infrastructure that makes life safer for all, enables economic prosperity and create harmony between natural and built environments.

University of Idaho civil and environmental engineering students and faculty work directly with communities to improve transportation and building infrastructure, mitigate natural hazards and protect water resources and quality.

The department offers undergraduate civil engineering and geological engineering programs on campus in Moscow and civil engineering and geological engineering graduate degrees online through Engineering Outreach and in Moscow and Boise.

Thriving careers. Bold reputation.

Increasing demand for modernized infrastructure - roads, bridges, buildings and water systems - and our need to address environmental challenges like sustainable development and climate resilience make it an exciting time for aspiring civil engineers.

U of I’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is the premier destination for civil engineering education in the Pacific Northwest. You’ll benefit from strong industry connections that open doors to career opportunities. Employers actively seek U of I civil and environmental engineering graduates, with more job requests than we have students to fill them. This high demand means you’ll have a competitive edge in the job market, greater career flexibility and the potential to secure a position that aligns with your interests and goals.
