MOSCOW, Idaho — Oct. 17, 2018 — The founding of Germany’s first republic and its first experiment with democracy and open society marks its 100th anniversary on Nov. 9, 2018. The University of Idaho will commemorate that centennial and its place in world history with a free retrospective film and lecture series throughout November and December titled “Weimar Germany: History, Film and Memory – 100 Years Later.” Read more

Ninth Annual Palouse French Film Festival Runs Throughout October

Community members from across the region can enjoy French cinema this October when the ninth annual Palouse French Film Festival returns to the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow. The communitywide movie series is presented by the University of Idaho Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, the Washington State University School of Languages, Cultures, and Race, and the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre.​ Every Tuesday evening, Oct. 2-23, the Kenworthy will show a film presented in French with English subtitles. All films begin at 7 p.m. In addition, opening and closing receptions will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Kenworthy, 508 S. Main St., Moscow. Read more

CDIL-Sponsored Palouse Digital Scholarship Symposium Starts This Week

The CDIL's summer workshop series for selected faculty and graduate student fellows starts on Friday and continues throughout the following week. This year the Center for Digital Inquiry and Learning (CDIL) is collaborating with WSU's Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC) to jointly host the symposium at U of I and at WSU. Now called the Palouse Digital Scholarship Symposium, the symposium will cover topics such as textual analysis, web publishing and data visualization. Three fellows from U of I were selected to participate: Renae Campbell, doctoral candidate, historical archaeology; Zachary Turpin, assistant professor, English, and Sarah Nelson, associate professor, modern languages and cultures. Each will pair with one of the fellows from WSU to pitch a joint CDSC/CDIL project at the end of the week. Additionally, Denessy Rodriguez ('19) was selected as the undergraduate fellow for the summer and will be attending and supporting the symposium as well.

Students at the University of Idaho can now earn an interdisciplinary minor in Africana Studies in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. With this minor, students will come to understand the historical, political and social contexts behind contemporary global politics and racial relations.
