Bootcamp
Prepare to earn your master’s in architecture at U of I
Architecture Bootcamp offers a transformative learning experience for beginning architecture students. This intensive summer program is designed for students with bachelor’s degrees in other disciplines, transfer students and community college graduates with A.A. and A.S. degrees. Bootcamp prepares students for our National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)-accredited architecture program. By completing Architecture Bootcamp, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge needed to pursue your M.Arch, earn your professional architecture degree, and ultimately become a licensed architect.
What can I learn at Architecture Bootcamp?
Architecture Bootcamp teaches basic design principles, foundational techniques of architectural design and representation, and basic materials and methods of construction. This is a unique opportunity for you to brush up on, learn or reinforce principles of architecture in preparation for master’s coursework.
Structure of Architecture Bootcamp
Bootcamp is intensive. For eight weeks, you’ll spend eight hours a day, five days a week in class — plus about 20 hours of homework each week. It’s a full-time commitment, so be prepared to dedicate your summer to this course.
Program placement
Although most students can enter the third year of the architecture program after Bootcamp, some may be advised to take or retake parts of second year sequence. Your placement into the master’s in architecture program depends on your performance in Bootcamp.
