Get involved
CALS offers plenty of opportunities for students to get involved. The college experience is about more than just textbooks, classes and exams; it’s also about making friends, gaining real-world experience and making the most of your time on campus.
Scholarships
CALS awards more than $1 million in scholarships to students every year. In fact, over half of CALS students receive scholarships.
Jobs and internships
Ninety-two percent of graduating CALS students have a job lined up or plans to pursue further education within six months of graduation. Our graduates are highly sought after by employers like Simplot, AgWest Farm Credit, Glanbia, Nike and Agri Beef.
Learn by doing
In CALS, learning happens through experience. Whether you're working at our on-campus agricultural facilities, exploring our unique apparel, soil or entomological collections, assisting with FFA events or engaging in undergraduate research, you'll gain practical, hands-on skills to prepare for your future career.
Study abroad
Make the world your classroom. Join a professor-led study tour or a semester abroad where you’ll gain new skills and experiences and make new friends. Visit learning destinations such as Australia, Ireland, India, Mexico, Peru, Sweden and Taiwan. To get more information about CALS' study abroad and international programs contact Robert Haggerty, at haggerty@uidaho.edu or call 208-885-6681. You may also visit University of Idaho’s International Programs Office for information regarding international issues, travel and studying abroad, as well as support resources for foreign students studying at U of I.
CALS ambassador program
The CALS Ambassador program was the first of its kind at U of I and continues to be the largest college ambassador team on campus. The team consists of current students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences who are selected to represent the college and its programs at events on and off campus. Ambassadors are students with outstanding achievement and leadership potential who share their knowledge and enthusiasm with prospective students.
Ambassadors engage in a wide range of activities representing CALS and its programs at events such as CALS Days, Envision Idaho and UIdaho Bound, as well as traveling to regional, state and national conventions, and high school agricultural and science classrooms in Idaho and neighboring states. Ambassadors receive scholarships and academic credit for the critical role they play in supporting recruitment efforts.
