Supporting students in meat science
Vandal Brand Meats provides University of Idaho students with hands-on learning experiences to better prepare them for careers in the industry. Beef, it’s what’s for dinner — and for science
Meet Phil Bass, associate professor of meat science. Whether as hamburger, filet mignon, ribeye or T-bone, beef is a staple on many American dinner tables. Listen as Bass discusses the growing size of cattle, the creation of dry-aged beef and the impact of the meat industry on the economy.
Athletes and ag science students swap worlds
U of I College of Agricultural and Life Sciences students took Vandal Athletes behind the scenes at the campus feed lots and Vandal Brand Meats to show how high-quality protein makes its way from farm to table. Then, the athletes returned the favor. It’s all about teamwork, learning and building strong connections — on and off the field.
Our meat products are inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Safety Inspection Services (FSIS). FSIS ensures the meat products are from healthy livestock, clean and sanitary handling and processing procedures are followed, and the products are wholesome.
