Our meat products are inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Safety Inspection Services (FSIS). FSIS ensures the meat products are from healthy livestock, clean and sanitary handling and processing procedures are followed, and the products are wholesome.
What we offer
Our products can be purchased in our retail store or shipped — shipping and handling costs apply. All products are frozen unless otherwise requested. Below you’ll find a list of products currently offered. For current prices, contact the store.
Featured products
We have steaks, chops, ribs, burgers and a variety of sausage to grill and impress. Our marinated flanks, tri-tips and chicken breasts also go well on the grill.
Beef
All retail cuts, sides and quarters are from grain-fed cattle. Our beef is Extra Trim (less than 1/4 inch), and approximately 90% of the cuts are boneless. Most of the meat would grade U.S. Select or U.S. Choice. The meat is naturally dry aged to increase tenderness and give the beef a rich flavor. All our beef is sold by the pound.

Beef bundles and specials
Our Beef Bundle (approximate weight 45 pounds) includes a selection of steaks, roasts and ground beef.
Our Beef and Pork Bundle (approximate weight 40 pounds), includes a selection of pork chops, beef steaks, pork steaks, ground beef, pork sausage and pork spareribs.
The Barby Special (approximate weight 30 pounds), includes a selection of steaks, tri-tip, pork chops, ribs, hamburger patties, jumbo hot dogs and Vandal smoked sausage.
Cured and smoked products
Vandal Brand Meats is famous for our cured and smoked products. The cured and smoked hams and bacon are tasty and have fabulous hickory-smoked flavor.
- Ham — Available whole, boneless or bone in, or as slices. The Vandal Ham is a whole, bone-in or boneless ham that has been cured, dry-aged, slow cooked and smoked. This ham has an “old-fashioned” taste and has been a great entree for holiday cooking for over 40 years.
- Bacon — Our bacon is lean, tasty and sliced thick, providing a superb flavor for breakfast or sandwiches.
- Barbecue beef — Made from brisket slices that are slow cooked and hickory smoked then smothered in barbecue sauce. Our barbecue beef is vacuumed packaged and ready to heat and eat.
- Beef jerky — Sliced beef rounds make a flavorful, long-lasting snack.
- Smoked snack sticks — Our snack sticks are made with quality meat ingredients that are seasoned, smoked, cooked and ready to eat. These items make delicious snacks that you can enjoy with your favorite beverage — great for hunting, fishing or camping trips, too. Beef sticks, pepperoni sticks, barbecue cheddar sticks and Willie’s sticks are available.
Fresh sausages
We have several different fresh sausage flavors available, including:
- Old Fashioned Breakfast Sausage — This 2003 Grand Champion Sausage is a simple mild yet extremely tasty all-pork sausage.
- Good and Sagey Sausage — A simple all-pork sausage, this delicious sage-filled sausage is a great addition to the table or any meatloaf.
- Hot Pork Sausage — For people who enjoy simple with a kick to their sausage, this is the one — tasty and spicy.
- Apple and Cinnamon Sausage — A linked all-pork sausage that has juicy apple flavor and sweet cinnamon taste and would make an excellent breakfast for people of all ages.
- Italian Sausage — This 2004 award winning sausage has the Italian “fennel” taste that makes it good by itself or great when put with an Italian dish.
- Hot Italian Sausage — With the same Italian “fennel” taste as Italian Sausage, this sausage has different amounts of peppers that give it a nice kick that will bring something extra to the meal.
- Bratwurst — With a German origin, this fresh bratwurst is an excellent juicy, all-season sausage that can go with almost any meal.
- Cheddar Bratwurst — Similar to our fresh bratwurst this is made with real shredded cheddar cheese. This bratwurst can go on the grill or with a pot of sauerkraut.
- Jalapeño Cheddar Bratwurst — Also made with real shredded cheddar cheese, this bratwurst also has chopped jalapeños.
- Sweet and Hot Italian Chicken and Pork Sausage — This is a great sausage that is sweet but still has a kick to it, which can only be brought out by chicken and pork. This sausage pairs well with an Italian meal.
- Chicken Broccoli Cheese Sausage — This bright, colorful chicken sausage is made with real cheddar cheese and chopped broccoli. With its unique flavor and color, the kids really love this.
- Sun Dried Tomato and Basil Chicken Sausage — Sun dried tomato with hints of basil make up this yummy chicken sausage. It may not be as colorful as other chicken sausages but has equal or more flavor.
Lamb
Lambs processed at Vandal Brand Meats are young animals, usually less than one year of age. These lambs produce meat that is equivalent to U.S. Choice or U.S. Prime. A majority of the lamb processed originates from the U of I College of Agricultural and Life Sciences teaching flock. The lamb cuts are closely trimmed and contain a high proportion of lean meat.

Pork Bundle
We offer a Pork Bundle (approximate weight 38 pounds), which includes a selection of pork chops, steaks, roasts, ribs, bacon and sausage.
Our award-winning sausages
- Vandal Smoked Sausage — Pork and beef sausage that is cured and fully cooked. Smoked sausage is a great addition to the outdoor barbecue.
- Vandal Chorizo — Pork sausage that is cured and fully cooked. The hot and spicy flavor comes from the careful formulation of ingredients and hickory smoke.
- Bratwurst — Fresh or smoked pork sausage of German origin, which is especially popular for outdoor grilling. Also available with jalapeño cheese.
- Italian and Hot Italian — Fresh pork sausages with an Italian “fennel” taste.
- Beef Stick — Semi-dry, all-beef sausage with a unique flavor only hickory smoke can provide. This fully cooked sausage is outstanding with cheese and crackers.
- Summer Sausage — Semi-dry sausage rich in flavor! This hickory-smoked summer sausage is fully cooked and can be served with cheese and crackers, cooked with sauerkraut or added to a casserole.
- Salami — Cotto style salami, fully cooked and great with cheese and crackers or on a sandwich.
- Vandal Franks — Very lean and flavorful, all-beef skinless quarter pound franks, hickory smoked and fully cooked.
- Andouille — A “hot link” sausage that offers flavorful Cajun spices.
- Shakin’ Bacon Sausage — An all-pork sausage with the taste of bacon, maple and/or chipotle peppers.

Noon to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays (Summer hours: Noon to 5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays)
We are closed on all university holidays and most federal holidays. Special hours on Vandal football home gamedays may be added. Check our Facebook page for announcements about special hours.
