University of Idaho is committed to providing accessible parking and transportation options for students, employees and visitors with disabilities. Whether you need an annual disability permit, a temporary permit or short-term access, there are options to help you navigate campus with ease.

Disability parking permits

Both a U of I disability permit (annual or temporary) and a valid state-issued disability placard or license plate are required to park in ADA-marked spaces, except after 5 p.m. on weekdays, weekends, academic breaks and university holidays. During these times, only a valid state-issued disability placard or license plate is required.

Disability permits are also required in regular color-coded parking lots when permits are enforced. However, in paid parking areas and timed spaces, only a state-issued disability placard or plate is necessary, with no time restrictions.

Before attempting to purchase an annual Disability permit online, please email a photo or scanned image of the photo ID and state disability permit/plate registration to parking@uidaho.edu. A U of I annual Disability permit can then be purchased by visiting aims.parking.uidaho.edu. If the state-issued disability permit is non-expiring, there will be no need to annually update state information after the initial submission. Otherwise, a new state disability placard/plate registration will need to be submitted when the original expires.

Please contact our office with questions at 208-885-6424 or parking@uidaho.edu.

Annual disability permits

Annual disability permits are available for students, employees and frequent visitors with a valid state-issued disability placard or license plate. These permits allow parking in ADA-marked spaces, permit spaces in any color-coded lot, metered spaces, posted time spaces and valid walkway spaces.

  • Available for purchase online
  • Requires valid photo ID and current state-issued disability placard or plate registration
  • Non-expiring state-issued placards require only an initial submission of documents

Temporary disability permits

Available for purchase by university faculty, staff, students or visitors who provide photo identification and current registration for a state-issued Disability permit and submit a Temporary Disability Parking Permit Application. The U of I Temporary Disability permit’s expiration date will be set to match that of the temporary state-issued placard.

  • Free for annual permit holders
  • $1 per day for others (not exceeding the cost of an annual permit)
  • Requires a Temporary Disability Parking Permit Application

Available for purchase by university faculty, staff, students or visitors who provide photo identification and current registration for a state-issued Disability permit and submit a U of I Temporary Disability permit application. The U of I Temporary Disability permit’s expiration date will be set to match that of the temporary state-issued placard. Temporary disability permits are free to holders of an annual parking permit and $1 per day for all others, not to exceed the cost of an annual disability permit.

  • Not valid in ADA-marked spaces
  • Limited to one permit per person per year
  • Free for annual permit holders; $3 for others
