The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing body for culturally-based fraternities and sororities at University of Idaho. MGC chapters are inclusive and do not require members to identify with a specific cultural or racial background. These organizations engage in a semi-formal recruitment process and initiate new members throughout the year via an intake process held twice annually.

Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc.

Gamma Alpha Omega is a Latina-founded, multicultural sorority focused on academic success, leadership and lifelong sisterhood. Its mission is to increase the number of women obtaining higher education, mentor youth and underserved communities, and empower members through the pillars of Honesty, Integrity, Leadership, Scholarship and Unity.

Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc.

Kappa Delta Chi is a Latina-founded, national sorority that promotes academic excellence, professional development, and cultural awareness. Its purpose is to uphold the values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity and Leadership through service, sisterhood and educational programs.

Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.

Lambda Theta Alpha is the first Latina sorority in the U.S., founded to promote unity, love and respect among women. It emphasizes academic excellence, empowerment of the universal woman and Latina unity through charitable and educational programs.

Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc.

Lambda Theta Phi is a Latino fraternity committed to fostering cultural, social and political awareness through unity and leadership. It promotes Latino Unity as a foundation for community engagement and societal advancement.

Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Omega Delta Phi is a multicultural service/social fraternity founded on the values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity and Leadership. It offers a diverse brotherhood experience to men pursuing higher education and is dedicated to community service and academic success.

Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc.

Sigma Lambda Beta is a historically Latino-based fraternity that fosters a values-based environment to serve and uplift all communities. Its mission is to use cultural awareness and brotherhood as a catalyst for positive change.

Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.

Sigma Lambda Gamma is a multicultural sorority empowering women through academic achievement, leadership and cultural awareness. Its five principles — Academics, Community Service, Cultural Awareness, Morals & Ethics and Social Interaction — guide members toward personal and community excellence.

The MGC serves as the governing body for U of I’s multicultural fraternities and sororities.

Violation types

  • Health and Safety: Violations or concerns regarding Risk Management, Alcohol/Drugs or Hazing
  • Academic: Chapter falls below council or individual organization standards
  • Financial: Organization is in financial default with their inter/national executive office or the university

Status definitions

  • Disciplinary Probation: serves to notify an organization that it must avoid any further violations for a specified period of time and complete assigned outcomes in order to avoid additional disciplinary action. Chapters on probation are not in good standing with the university.
  • Interim Suspension: a status for a specified period of time during which any subsequent finding of responsibility for a violation of the Student Code of Conduct or any other university policy may result in the outcome of Suspension. Certain chapter activities or operations may be paused during this period.
  • Suspension: a status that may include, but is not limited to, the revocation of the university's recognition of the organization for a stated or an indeterminate period of time, cessation of university funding, restriction of operations at the university and restriction of use of university resources.
