About our interim provost and executive vice president
Brooke Blevins began serving as Interim Provost and Executive Vice President at University of Idaho in June 2026. In this role, she serves as the university’s chief academic officer and provides leadership for academic programs, faculty initiatives, student success, research and outreach, strategic planning, accreditation and the university’s statewide academic mission. She works closely with the president, deans, vice provosts, vice presidents, Faculty Senate and other university leaders to advance U of I’s land-grant mission and strategic priorities.
Blevins brings to the role a deep commitment to higher education, student success, faculty excellence and the people and communities served by University of Idaho. Her leadership is grounded in collaboration, clarity, open communication and a belief that strong institutions are built through relationships, trust and shared purpose.
Prior to serving as Interim Provost and Executive Vice President, Blevins was Dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences where she had the privilege of working alongside faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and partners to strengthen programs, expand partnerships and advance work that makes a meaningful difference across Idaho and beyond. During her tenure, the college elevated education across Idaho through efforts such as the Vandal Early Literacy Symposium and the Vandal Outstanding Educator award; launched and expanded academic initiatives including the Ed.D. in Learning, Leadership and Innovation and B.S. and Ph.D. in Kinesiology; and redesigned programs such as Sport and Recreation Management and Leadership and Organization Development to better respond to workforce and community needs. EHHS also contributed to the university’s R1 research status through doctoral conferrals and research expenditures. Throughout this work, Blevins prioritized a positive and collaborative college culture in which faculty, staff and students were supported, valued and recognized for their excellence and impact.
Blevins has worked closely with state agencies, policymakers, and community partners across Idaho. She has engaged with the Idaho State Board of Education, Idaho Department of Education, Idaho Division of Career Technical Education, Idaho Workforce Development Council and Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. She has also testified before the Idaho Legislature on issues related to K-12 education, educator preparation, and educational leadership. These partnerships reflect her commitment to connecting the university’s academic mission to the needs and future of the state.
Prior to joining University of Idaho, Blevins held several leadership roles at Baylor University, including Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Associate Chair of Curriculum and Instruction and the Conwell G. Strickland Endowed Chair of Education. She began her career in higher education as a faculty member in curriculum and instruction, with a scholarly focus on social studies and civic education and preparing educators to engage in transformational and humanizing practice.
Blevins is a scholar in civics education whose work focuses on civic engagement and preparing young people to become active and engaged participants in their communities. She has published widely and secured external funding to support innovative civic education initiatives, including the iEngage Summer Civics Institute, which she co-founded in 2012. In 2022, she received the National Center for State Courts Sandra Day O’Connor Award for the Advancement of Civics Education.
Originally from Texas, Blevins earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and speech communication and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Trinity University. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas at Austin. A fourth-generation educator, Blevins served as a high school teacher prior to her career in higher education, an experience that continues to shape her commitment to students, educators, and the transformative power of education.
Brooke and her husband, Ben, are the proud parents of three children: Elisha, Adiya and Elliana. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her family, being outdoors, baking, exercising, reading and cheering on the Vandals.
As Interim Provost and Executive Vice President, Blevins welcomes opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners as the university works together to strengthen student success, support faculty excellence, sustain R1 momentum and expand U of I’s impact across Idaho and beyond.
