Supporting Idaho’s future physicians

Nationally, medical school costs average $167,200 annually. However, thanks to support from the State of Idaho and our donors, Idaho WWAMI students pay an average of $83,550 per year, with additional need- and merit-based scholarships and financial aid available.

Financial aid resources

Students should apply for financial aid through the University of Washington School of Medicine. University of Washington’s financial aid counselors work exclusively with all WWAMI medical students and are the best resource for your financial questions during medical school.

Idaho WWAMI scholarships

Your health professions education can be financially challenging. Idaho WWAMI provides opportunities for merit and need-based scholarships, making quality education accessible to all. Together, we’re shaping the future of health care in Idaho.

Each October, students receive a scholarship application form. Before submitting the application, students should complete their FAFSA. The Idaho WWAMI scholarship committee will use the information from both the application and FAFSA to determine scholarship awards.

For more scholarship information, email Marlane Martonick.

Service payback

Starting in Fall 2023, Idaho WWAMI students and Idaho residents accepted into the WWAMI medical program or the University of Utah School of Medicine in Idaho-reserved slots must commit to practicing full-time in Idaho for four years. This full-time professional practice must begin within one year of obtaining a medical license, completing a residency or subspecialty residency or finishing a medical fellowship. Students are required by law to sign a contract agreeing to this in-state practice obligation.

Failing to abide by that contract will require the student to reimburse the state of Idaho for money the state spent supporting the student’s medical education. This requirement may be waived in certain circumstances. You may read the legislation.
