Western Undergraduate Exchange

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is an award for qualified new, first-time freshmen and transfer students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree in Fall 2018 who meet the specific criteria listed below. WUE students pay 150 percent of Idaho in-state tuition and fees and are not charged out-of-state tuition. WUE value for the 2018-19 academic year is $13,704. That’s more than $54,000 in value over the course of four years!

The award is renewable up to four years for first year recipients with a minimum University of Idaho GPA. For transfer students the award is renewable up to three additional years depending on the number of transfer credits with a minimum University of Idaho GPA.

WUE states include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

First Year Students Fall 2018

If you are:

  • A new, first-time freshman admitted to the University of Idaho
  • Pursuing your first bachelor's degree
  • A resident of a WUE participating state
  • Entering with a 3.2, or higher, accredited high school unweighted GPA* 

Then you are automatically eligible to receive the WUE award when filling out an application for admission.

*Home school students or graduates from a non-accredited high school must meet a minimum 22 ACT/1020 SAT to meet this requirement.

There is no separate application for the WUE award.

This award will be available to you for a total of four years by maintaining continuous enrollment and a 2.5 cumulative UI GPA.

Recipients of the WUE award cannot simultaneously receive the Discover Idaho scholarship.

There is no deadline to complete the admission application and be considered for this WUE award.


Transfer Students Fall 2018

If you are:

  • A new, first-time transfer student with 14 or more transferrable credits admitted to the University of Idaho
  • Pursuing your first bachelor's degree
  • A resident of a WUE participating state
  • Transferring with a 3.0 or higher GPA

Then you are automatically eligible to receive the WUE award when filling out an application for admission.

There is no separate application for the WUE award.

This award will be available to you for a total of up to three years depending on the number of credits transferred, and by maintaining continuous enrollment with a minimum 2.5 UI GPA.

Recipients of the WUE award cannot simultaneously receive the Discover Idaho scholarship.

There is no deadline to complete the admission application and be considered for this WUE award.


Other WUE Eligibility

A limited number of WUE awards are available for students who are participating in designated programs. These programs are DiversityNational Merit ScholarsPerforming Arts (dance, music, theatre) and University Honors.
