Census Date

Eligibility for the financial aid you are awarded will be reviewed on the 10th day each semester based on your enrollment at 5 p.m. Federal regulations and University of Idaho policy require that financial aid and scholarships be adjusted to reflect a student's actual enrollment on the census date. Following census, Cost of Attendance (COA) budgets will be adjusted downward to reflect half-time or less than half-time enrollment in the semester. If this adjustment results in your having received aid to which you are not entitled, you may owe back a portion of your financial aid.

If you drop credits prior to the 10th day of class and no longer meet the enrollment requirements for the types of aid you have been awarded you may be required to repay some or all of the aid that was disbursed to you.

If you add credits resulting in full-time or half-time enrollment after the 10th day of class you may not be eligible to receive some types of financial aid (e.g. awards contingent upon full-time or half-time enrollment).

Enrollment requirements for different types of aid are listed below:

Please note that wait-listed courses do not count toward credit requirements when determining financial aid eligibility.

  • Scholarships and tuition waivers (including WUE) : Full-time
  • Pell Grants:  Full-time (prorated at ¾ time, ½ time and less than ½ time)
  • All other grants:  Full-time
  • Loans (including Perkins, Vandal and Ben O. Braham):  Full-time
  • Loans (including Stafford Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized, Parent PLUS, Graduate PLUS, Private/Alternative and most Alaska):  Half-time
  • Work-Study:  Full-time

Full-time enrollment – 12 credits per semester for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduates, 10 credits for law students

Half-time enrollment – 6 credits per semester for undergraduates, 5 credits for graduate and law students
