Outreach to Military Kids
The Idaho Outreach to Military Kids (OMK) programs meet needs of Idaho National Guard youth by offering activities that provide support, express gratitude and develop life skills.
OMK also educates the public about the effects multiple deployments have on children.
More than 6,000 youths with a military connection live in Idaho, attending schools and living in neighborhoods without easy access to military installations.
These young people need community support while they adjust to their parents’ departures, absences and returns. The cycles of deployment affect youths in their everyday life, driving a need for community education and participation.
Partnerships
State 4-H Military Liaisons lead OMK State Teams in partnerships with the National Guard, Army Reserve, the Military Child Education Coalition, Boys and Girls Club of America, the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies and the American Legion.
OMK Objectives
Building community capacity to create local support networks, raising community awareness and implementing educational programs.
