Africana Studies Minor
The University of Idaho now offers an academic minor in Africana Studies. Based on University of Idaho learning outcomes, the interdisciplinary minor empowers students to better understand the historical, political and social contexts behind contemporary global politics and racial relations. Students completing the minor will be better equipped, both personally and professionally, to work with and for diverse populations.
The program requires 18 completed credits of study focusing on the history, experiences and contributions of people throughout the African diaspora. Courses draw from the departments of Education, English, French, History, International Studies, Music, Political Science and Sociology and Anthropology.
Requirements
Students completing this minor will complete:
- Africana Studies 101: Introduction to Africana Studies
- One course in contemporary race relations
- One course in Africana History
- One course in Africana Music and Literature
- Two pre-approved, elective courses
