Powering Idaho’s economy
A $1.1 Billion impact each year
U of I’s operations — including employee wages, facility upkeep and on-campus spending — contribute over $200 million in Gross State Product (GSP), supporting more than 2,800 jobs statewide.
R1 research fuels growth
When we consider the $140 million in research expenditures, U of I generates nearly $110 million for the GSP and supports over 2,443 jobs. Startups and spin-offs from university research contribute an additional $50 million in GSP, creating 894 jobs, including the multiplier effects.
Students and visitors give back
Students spend locally, fueling $31 million in GSP and 900 jobs. Out-of-state visitors attending university events add another $5 million to GSP and over 150 jobs.
Alumni power Idaho’s workforce
U of I graduates working in the state generate a remarkable $782 million in annual GSP, supporting more than 16,500 jobs.
