    Enrollment momentum since 2019

University of Idaho’s growth didn’t happen overnight — it’s the result of long-term strategic investments in student success, access and opportunity. Between 2019 and 2024, we’ve seen gains across the board:

    • Total enrollment increased from 11,926 to 12,286 — a 3% overall rise
    • First-year freshmen jumped from 1,475 to 2,025 — a 37.3% increase
    • New graduate students grew by 21.6%, from 649 to 789
    • Non-resident students increased by 30.6%, reaching 3,489
    • International enrollment rose 25.8%, with students from 80 countries

U of I’s global reach has expanded, growing from 70 to 80 countries represented. This growth reflects U of I’s continued momentum as a national destination for students seeking high-value education in a welcoming, research-driven environment.

    Growing graduate and doctoral programs

Graduate education is expanding — new grad student enrollment rose 13.5 % in fall 2024 and total enrollment grew to 2,010. Doctoral students set a record at 602, an increase of 10 %.

    Access for all

Idaho resident undergrad enrollment is up over 4 %, while enrollment from non-resident and international students soared to 12 % and 23 % respectively in Spring 2025. Fall 2023 brought a 16.5 % rise for black students, a 40 % gain for American Indian/Alaska native students and continued growth in Hispanic/Latinx student enrollment.
