USAC Study Abroad Programs
USAC study abroad program credits and transcripts
The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) gives students the opportunity to study at partner campuses around the world. As a School of Record for USAC, University of Idaho provides official transcripts for both U of I students studying abroad through USAC and non-U of I students from other institutions participating in USAC Specialty Programs. Non–U of I students in these programs are routed to University of Idaho by USAC for transcript processing and course equivalency information.

Credit transfer and course approval for USAC students
Graduate-level credit for any course must be pre-approved by both USAC and University of Idaho. If a USAC Specialty Program course does not have a direct University of Idaho equivalent, it will be assigned a special topics designation. These courses are typically granted elective credit (2040 or 4040 level) based on evaluation and recommendation by the corresponding academic department. With advisor approval, such credits may count toward specific degree requirements through a substitution or waiver.
Students are strongly encouraged to keep detailed course descriptions and syllabi for all courses taken abroad, as this documentation may be required during transcript evaluation. Providing this information can make the difference between receiving elective credit or a direct course match.
University of Idaho students participating in USAC programs will complete course planning and approval prior to studying abroad through the Education Abroad Office. Students from other institutions should coordinate with USAC and their home institution to confirm how USAC courses will apply toward their degree requirements.
