Maureen Laflin

Maureen E. Laflin, the Director of Clinical Programs at the University of Idaho College of Law, has been a member of the faculty since 1991. She received her B.S. in Spanish and Social Work from the University of Dayton in 1977 and her J.D. from St. Louis University in 1982. 

Professor Laflin's teaching and research focuses primarily on skills building. She directs our Trial Advocacy program and teaches the Appellate Clinic. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has complemented the work of our Appellate Clinic several times in published opinions. Professor Laflin, a certified professional mediator with the Idaho Mediation Association, also created and directs the College's Northwest Institute for Dispute Resolution. She teaches several Alternative Dispute Resolutions (ADR) courses and actively works in the Inland Northwest to promote and create ADR opportunities. 

Professor Laflin was instrumental in establishing the Nez Perce Peacemaker's Program on the Nez Perce Reservation and the first Small Claims Mediation Program in Idaho. Prior to coming to the University of Idaho, she handled civil rights cases in Missouri and served as a Deputy City Solicitor in the Special Litigation and Labor Unit of the Philadelphia City Solicitor's Office.
