The selection of high-quality seed potatoes is essential to produce a profitable commercial potato crop. This publication BUL983 explains the steps you need to take to get your seed potato certified, as well as how to evaluate quality seed when preparing to buy them. Soon you'll be well on the way to minimizing seed-related problems in your operation.

This inspectors field guide (pdf) is based on the “Guide to seed potato field inspection: Recommended practices” produced by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe committee on standards. This handbook is designed to provide general guidelines for assessing certified seed potato fields for important faults including disease, insect infestation, varietal mixtures, herbicide injury and other field related issues that are common across all seed potato producing areas.

Leading researchers from Idaho and Montana provided a national perspective.
