Research and Extension centers
The Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station operates 10 agricultural research and Extension centers across the state where faculty and staff conduct research on a variety of issues facing Idaho’s agricultural industry.
Aberdeen Research and Extension Center
The Aberdeen Research and Extension Center conducts research on many of Idaho’s most important crops, including potatoes, wheat and barley. The center also collaborates with the USDA Agricultural Research Service on potato and small grains germplasm improvement and on increasing rainbow trout production efficiency through use of grain-based feeds.
Caldwell Research and Extension Center
The Caldwell Research and Extension Center conducts research and Extension programming in nutrition, dairy science, personal finance, food science, agribusiness development and 4-H.
Idaho Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment
Idaho CAFE is the nation’s largest research dairy, leading research, outreach and education efforts to advance the sustainability of dairy, livestock and crop production, and food processing in Idaho.
Idaho Falls Research and Extension Center
The Idaho Falls Research and Extension Center supports the agricultural research programs in eastern Idaho with research and Extension programs focused on agriculture, natural resources, youth, family, community and environmental issues.
Kimberly Research and Extension Center
The Kimberly Research and Extension Center conducts research and extension projects related to potatoes, sugar beets, dry beans, forages, small grains, entomology, weed science, irrigation and water resources.
Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension and Education Center
The Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension and Education Center is University of Idaho’s primary cow-calf and forage research station. The center provides land and facilities for beef cattle research at the scale of a working ranch. The center also provides continuing education for those involved in the livestock industry and learning opportunities for University of Idaho students.
Palouse Research, Extension and Education Center
The Palouse Research, Extension and Education Center conducts research and Extension projects related to plant and animal sciences. The center consists of eight facilities located on the main University of Idaho campus in Moscow and the surrounding community.
Parma Research and Extension Center
The Parma Research and Extension Center conducts research and Extension programs related to production, storage and related problems of vegetable, forages, cereals, fruit, field, seed and specialty crop produced in southwest Idaho.
Tetonia Research and Extension Center
The Tetonia Research and Extension Center conducts research and Extension projects related to small grains and potatoes. Tetonia produces all of the seed potatoes and 80% of the oat, wheat and barley seed available to northwest growers through the Idaho Foundation Seed Program.
Twin Falls Research and Extension Center
The Twin Falls Research and Extension Center conducts research and Extension projects related to agricultural economics, agricultural waste management, rangelands, weed science and minor use pesticide development.

Aquaculture Research Institute
The Aquaculture Research Institute (ARI) conducts basic and applied research, supports undergraduate and graduate student education and research and is engaged in outreach activities in aquaculture, including food production, fisheries enhancement and fisheries stock restoration.
Food Technology Center
University of Idaho Food Technology Center offers processing and educational assistance to aspiring food entrepreneurs that wish to produce packaged food products for resale.
Rinker Rock Creek Ranch
Rinker Rock Creek Ranch is a unique research, education and outreach facility that offers a hands-on approach to rangeland management and conservation. The working ranch doubles as a living laboratory where science-based practices for land managers are developed.
Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center
The Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center (SOAC), located in Bonner County, is one of two USDA Certified Organic programs in University of Idaho’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). The center includes an organic fruit orchard, meeting facilities, dormitories for visiting faculty and students, a shop and cider house.
U.S. Sheep Experiment Station
The mission of the USDA, ARS, Range Sheep Production Efficiency Research Unit, U.S. Sheep Experiment Station is to develop integrated methods for increasing production efficiency of sheep and to simultaneously improve the sustainability of rangeland ecosystems
