How to apply for a job
Find all available jobs on the University of Idaho Careers webpage. Once you locate the position you are interested in, click “Apply for this job” at the top of the posting to start your application. Log in with your existing username and password or create an account. The system will then guide you through each application section as long as the position is still open. All fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are required. If you have applied for jobs with U of I in the past, information will autofill into your application. Be sure to review this information for accuracy and make any changes needed.
You will be prompted to upload additional files such as a resume or cover letter (PDF format is recommended). See the applicant documents section below for more information.
Once you review, certify and submit, you’ll receive a confirmation email.
Applicant documents
In addition to the online application, many job postings will require supplemental documentation. Common documents include:
- Resume: A brief (1-2 page) outline of experience, education, recognitions/awards, participation in professional organizations and affiliations, and certification or licensure.
- Curriculum vitae (CV): A complete summary of all academic and professional experience, including all publications, presentations, projects and other accomplishments.
- Cover letter: A brief letter (1-2 pages) explaining your interest and qualifications. It can be addressed generically to the search committee.

After receiving an offer
Before starting work, you will need to complete your Form I-9 and onboarding paperwork. You may first be required to complete a criminal background check. Review the pre-employment requirements below and contact Human Resources at hr@uidaho.edu or 208-885-3638 with any questions.
Pre-employment requirements
Criminal background check
A criminal background check is required for most university jobs. If a background check is required for your position, watch for an email from clientservices@verifiedcredentials.com explaining how to submit your information. Your background check must be completed and returned as satisfactory before you can complete your I-9.
Form I-9
Once your background check has been approved and you have an established start date, you may fill out your Form I-9 and receive authorization to start work. The I-9 certifies that you are legally eligible to work in the United States. Your I-9 must be completed on or before your first day of work.
To fill out your I-9:
- You will need to present appropriate forms of identification. All documents must be original and unexpired. We are not able to review photocopies.
- Visit Human Resources at 415 W. Sixth St. in Moscow (see map) with your forms of identification. Our office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You do not need an appointment to fill out your I-9.
If you are not in Moscow:
If you will not be working on the Moscow campus or if your expected start date is before you arrive on campus, you may present appropriate forms of identification to an off-campus representative. They will assist with completing an I-9, which must then be mailed to Human Resources.
- Recommended: Make an appointment with a U of I authorized representative at one of our locations across the state.
- If you are hired to work remotely and your work location is not near any U of I location, follow the instructions to complete a Remote I-9. You will need to find a human resources representative at another university or county office willing to review your documents.
You are not authorized to perform any work (including training, orientations, meetings, etc.) until your I-9 has been completed.

If a position has a hard close date, it is removed at midnight Pacific time on that date and cannot accept new applications.
