Nitrogen Uptake and Utilization by Pacific Northwest Field Crops

PNW0513

December 31, 1998

This publication is geared to promoting an understanding of the timing and pattern of biomass accumulation and nitrogen (N) uptake for crops in the Pacific Northwest. Proper use of N-based fertilizers can improve crop yield, save on fertilizer costs and protect the environment. Crops discussed include winter wheat, seedgrass, hops, broccoli, cauliflower, peppermint, potatoes and onions. Tables, data and references make this bulletin a useful guide for timing nitrogen applications for best uptake and use.
