Research

The North Idaho Cereals team is currently conducting research on the following topics. More information will be posted when available.

  • Management of soil pH and aluminum toxicity in northern Idaho
  • Varietal response to nitrogen and seeding rates
  • Seed treatments for metalaxyl-resistant Pythium species

Stripe-Rust Management

UI Extension is participating in a tri-state effort to determine best management practices for combating stripe-rust on wheat.

Planted in the fall of 2011, this study combines different fungicide chemistries with multiple application rates and timings on susceptible, moderately-resistant and resistant wheat varieties.

This is a joint effort between the University of Idaho, Washington State University and Oregon State University's Extension Cereal programs.

Visit the USDA-ARS Stripe Rust website for current news, symptoms and signs, fungicide information and resources.
