    Integrated research approach

The SHAMP education team brings together interdisciplinary researchers and practicing health professionals at an R1 research university, a designation reserved for institutions with the highest level of research activity in the nation. For working professionals, that means your education is grounded in real-world, current practice and informed by the latest discoveries shaping health care today.

Faculty research spans a wide range of applied health fields, from biomechanics in the Integrated Sports Medicine Movement Analysis Laboratory to breastmilk composition in the Immunology Lab to dementia and memory disorders in the Neuro Epidemiology and Cognitive Aging Lab. This depth ensures what you’re learning is relevant, evidence-based and immediately applicable in your field.

As a SHAMP student, you’ll build on your existing experience through hands-on opportunities with U of I’s on-campus health care facilities and by collaborating with faculty on active research projects. At an R1 university, learning isn’t theoretical — it’s connected directly to the challenges and advancements professionals are navigating right now.

Learn more about hands-on health care experiences for SHAMP students or explore our latest research projects and discoveries.

    Impactful, hands-on opportunities

Put your experience to work in meaningful ways. SHAMP connects you with real-world health care challenges, underserved communities and established professional networks, giving you opportunities while adding impactful, real world experience to your portfolio.

These opportunities are designed to complement your career, helping you expand your impact, build connections and gain relevant, applied experience that translates directly to your professional goals.
