    Turn your passion for the game into a career in the golf industry

    University of Idaho offers the only PGA-accredited Professional Golf Management Program in the Pacific Northwest and is one of just 16 nationwide. This unique program prepares you for a career in the $100+ billion golf industry, with a 100% job placement rate after graduation. Upon graduation and industry employment, you'll be eligible to apply for Class A PGA membership.

    You'll gain extensive practical experience as you complete 16 months of paid internships at golf courses and companies across the world. Past internship locations include Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, The Reserve at Moonlight Basin, PGA Headquarters, Golf Channel, TPC Sawgrass, TaylorMade and several top international golf facilities. Many internships also include housing, meals, uniforms and more.

    PGA Golf Management Program at a glance

    At U of I:

    • Complete the PGA's Professional Golf Management curriculum.
    • Earn a Bachelor of Science in business with a major of your choice.
    • Gain 16 months of hands-on experience through paid internships at top-tier facilities.
    • Pass the PGA Playing Ability Test (PAT).

    After graduation:

    • Secure PGA-eligible employment in the golf industry.
    • Apply for PGA membership.

    This program combines the best of both worlds — academic preparation and industry experience — helping you build the skills, connections and credentials you need to succeed in the competitive golf industry.

    How the PGA Golf Management Program works

    The PGA Golf Management program at University of Idaho is housed within the College of Business and Economics, giving you the opportunity to select a business major that aligns with your interests. You can choose between the following bachelor's degree programs:

    • B.S.Bus. in business information analytics, PGA option
    • B.S.Bus. in business management, PGA option
    • B.S.Bus. in economics, PGA option
    • B.S.Bus. in finance, PGA option
    • B.S.Bus. in marketing, PGA emphasis
    • B.S.Bus. in operations and supply chain management, PGA option

    Admission requirements

    Confirmation of Playing Ability – All PGA Golf Management students must have a USGA Handicap Index of 12 or lower. Download the playing ability confirmation form here.

    PGA Golf Management events

    As a PGA Golf Management student, you will have the opportunity to participate in competitive golf and industry events that will enhance your experience and career prospects. These include:

    PGA University Championship — Compete in this national tournament with students from all 16 PGA Golf Management universities, held annually at top golf courses across the nation.

    PGA Leadership Session — Student leaders from the PGA Golf Management Student Club travel to the PGA Annual Meeting for networking and learning opportunities with industry leaders and students from across the country.

    PGA Merchandise Show — Attend the world's largest golf expo in Orlando, Florida, to network, explore internship opportunities and check out the latest golf equipment.

    Montana Golf Tour — Visit and play four of the top exclusive private clubs in Montana. Meet the PGA staff and University of Idaho alumni at Stock Farm Golf Club, Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, The Reserve at Moonlight Basin and Rock Creek Cattle Company.

    Kelbel Cup — Compete against the western PGA Golf Management universities in this annual golf tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

    PGA seminars and guest speakers — Regional industry experts visit the Moscow campus to discuss the latest trends and career opportunities in the golf industry.

    Weekly tournaments — Compete in weekly golf tournaments right here at U of I, improving your skills and earning a chance to participate in the PGA University Championship.

    National Collegiate Club Golf Association (NCCGA) — Represent U of I in regional tournaments against universities across the Pacific Northwest.

    As a PGA Golf Management student, you’ll have priority access to U of I's 18-hole university-owned golf course on the rolling hills of Moscow. You can also take your game to the next level at our indoor practice center equipped with Trackman Launch Monitor and Simulator capabilities.

    Golf industry employers-
    Host a PGA intern

    Help direct the future of the golf industry by offering immersive learning opportunities to students eager to turn their passion for the game  into a successful career. When you host a PGA intern, you provide valuable industry-relevant experience and have the chance to mentor driven, skilled young professionals. Please take a moment to complete the Facility Profile Form so we can share information about your internship opportunity with our students. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at pga@uidaho.edu or give us a call at 208-885-9773.

     

    Hosting requirements:

    • Provide full-time employment during the internship (as defined by the state of the internship location)
    • Offer work experience that aligns with the PGA training goals

    Throughout the internship, you will be asked to complete midpoint and final evaluations for the student. Our staff will support you in ensuring these forms are submitted on time.

    • A resume building experience (handling junior events, tournaments, merchandising, shadowing experiences)
