Adding or Dropping Courses

Deadlines for adding, dropping or withdrawing from a course vary according to the duration of the course. Students enrolled in Summer Session may add or drop courses on VandalWeb. Enrollment change deadlines are available on the Summer Registration Calendar, located under Dates & Deadlines. Questions should be referred to the Registrar’s Office at 208-885-6731 or registrar@uidaho.edu.

Please Note: Students will not receive a bill for classes that are added after their initial registration. Fees are due when credits are added.

Auditing Courses

Auditing a course consists of attendance without participation or credit. Audited courses are recorded on the transcript. Students auditing a course will pay the regular course fees noted in this catalog. A Change of Registration Form must be signed by the instructor and submitted to the Registrar’s Office by the deadline to audit a course.

Credit Load

The maximum credit load allowed for Summer Session is 18 credits for undergraduates and 16 credits for graduates. However, because of the short duration of most summer course offerings, students should exercise caution in deciding on their summer credit load. All students are urged to consult with their academic advisers prior to registering. Registration for more than the stated limits is permitted only on approval of a petition to the Academic Petitions Committee. Petitions are available in the deans’ offices. Registration for courses with conflicting or overlapping meeting times is prohibited. Students are prohibited from registering for two 1-credit workshops in the same week.

Course prerequisites are system enforced, meaning students can register for advanced courses only when the prerequisites have been met or special permission is obtained (i.e., a Change of Registration Form signed by the instructor or a registration override from the department).

Transferring Credit to the University of Idaho

Transfer courses are evaluated by the University of Idaho on a course-by-course basis. Baccalaureate-level courses are transferable. Credit for vocational technical courses is subject to review by the department and college into which the student is transferring. Transfer work does not affect the university grade point average. The Office of the Registrar maintains a transfer guide that many students will find useful. Transfer credits to be used toward a graduate degree are subject to the limitations stated in the General Catalog.

Transfer Credits to Other Institutions

University of Idaho courses are generally accepted for transfer credit. Students intending to transfer summer credits to another institution are encouraged to secure approval of their course selections from that institution prior to enrolling at the University of Idaho. Students transferring credit to a graduate program should refer to the academic regulations in the General Catalog or contact the College of Graduate Studies.

Once a grade for any class has been processed by the Registrar’s Office, it can be viewed in VandalWeb. If you have any questions, call the Registrar's Office at 208-885-6731.

Transcripts with summer grades are NOT processed until after the end of the entire Summer Session unless the student specifies which course(s) should be posted to the transcript prior to mailing. Grades are posted to the transcript periodically throughout the summer and transcripts are processed accordingly. For more information, cost, and a request form please refer to the Registrar's transcript webpage.
