Emergency planning and management

Fire Ecology Lab leadership and team conduct smoke, fire, and microbe research in the Idaho Fire Initiative for Research and Education (IFIRE) Combustion Laboratory at Pitkin Nursery.

Engage in the process

Effective emergency response can involve many processes and considerations depending on the event and its location. Planning for hazards and how to manage scenarios is critical to the outcome. Courses in this certificate cover topics such as protective actions, Incident Command System, principles and practice of emergency planning and the complexity of modern emergencies and disasters. Students choose electives in accident investigation, risk assessment, chemical hazards or homeland security.

Students pursuing a graduate certificate as a standalone program are not eligible for financial aid. However, students enrolled in a separate U of I graduate degree program may apply their financial aid or graduate funding toward a graduate certificate if they are pursuing both simultaneously.
